Measure the surface, not the room
Paint needs wall area minus large openings. Concrete needs length × width × depth in the same units. Tile needs floor or wall area plus a waste factor for cuts. Guessing from room names ("the bedroom") is how leftover buckets and short bags happen.
Add waste on purpose
A 10% waste factor is a common starting point for tile and paint touch-ups. Complex layouts, patterned tile, and textured walls need more. It is cheaper to return an unopened box than to stop a pour or a paint job halfway.
Convert bags or gallons after you have the volume or area. Concrete is often sold by the 60 or 80 lb bag; paint coverage is typically listed as square feet per gallon on the can.
